According to YouTube, the honor of top trending music video of 2021 went to Pooh Shiesty.

"Back In Blood” garnered more than 211.3 million views since its release on Jan. 2.

 

YouTube also explained that artists who reflected culture and tapped into the language of the Internet — with songs that inspired dance challenges, memes and so much more — saw chart-topping wins.

TikTok also released 2021 Music Report last december.

With TikTok set to reach 1.5 billion users in 2022, that influence only looks set to increase, which adds even more weight to this overview of key music trends.

First off, TikTok shares a listing of the most popular tracks in the app, both in the US and globally:

TikTok's list of top songs for 2021 features a mix of megahits from unlikely sources strewn across the globe. Powered by irresistible dance challenges and memes, U.S. hip-hop takes up much of the global list, but the community's diverse tastes propelled pop songs from Australia, hyperpop from Canada, and ragged rock from Italy into the stratosphere.

The biggest growth genre of the year was Latin music, which hopped from 10th on the list in 2020 to 6th this year.
